| Power Breakfasts by Jean Patterson There are few things I like more than sleeping -- fortunately, breakfast is one of them. First thing in the morning, when my oh-so-warm comforter whispers, "Just a few minutes more," the promise of an equally cozy breakfast gives me plenty of resolve. What better reason to vault out of bed than knowing I'll soon be able to enjoy a bowl of piping hot cereal, or perhaps a tall stack of pancakes dripping with fruity syrup? Knowing that my early morning ritual will set the tone for the rest of the day, I use it to get a head start on meeting my daily goals for intake of fiber, soy, and other important nutrients. I also choose a combination that's hearty enough to make me feel satisfied, so that I'll have plenty of energy to carry me through until lunch time. Breakfast may be quick and simple, like frozen fruit blended with soy milk to make a frosty smoothie. Or perhaps I'm in the mood for more of a show-stopper, like banana-stuffed French toast. Whatever my pleasure, add fresh-squeezed fruit juice and a tall glass of water, and I'm ready to face the day. Hot Barley with Currants and Honey-Toasted Walnuts
